Small cream serving bowl of chunky cranberry-orange sauce with visibly softened cranberries, natural ruby color and a little finely grated orange…

Ingredients

  • 12 oz (340 g) fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 3/4 cup (150 g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) orange juice
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) water
  • 1 tsp finely grated orange zest

Method

  1. Combine sugar, orange juice, and water in a medium saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  2. Add cranberries. Return to a gentle simmer and cook uncovered for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until most berries burst and the sauce thickens slightly.
  3. Remove from the heat and stir in orange zest. The sauce will thicken more as it cools.
  4. Transfer to a serving dish and cool before serving, or refrigerate in a covered container.
