The Edit · Collected Thanksgiving Table

Mismatched. Perfectly Matched.

I spent years buying matching place settings like I was registering for a wedding that never ended. Then I noticed the most beautiful Thanksgiving tables I’d ever sat at had nothing matching at all. This year, the collected table is officially in, and the matchy-matchy look is out.

Think layered patterns that somehow work together: a scalloped plate here, a gingham napkin there, small florals and a grandmother’s serving dish you’d never part with. Add low arrangements of dried mums in warm fall colors and a pretty napkin fold, and the table looks gathered over generations. The beauty of this trend is that you probably own half of it already. Pull out the mismatched plates, the vintage platter and the odds and ends, and stop apologizing for them. Your table should look like a family has been eating at it for years. Because it has.
