01 / The useful details

Leaf place cards.

Use colored paper, a pencil, scissors, and a marker. Draw a simple leaf template; adults can cut shapes for younger children.

Write a guest’s name on each leaf.
Let children add veins or a small drawing.
Lay each card beside the plate, away from food.

02 / The useful details

A gratitude paper chain.

Cut strips of paper in two or three autumn colors. Invite people to write or draw something they appreciate. Nobody owes the room a speech.

Keep strips, markers, and tape on a tray.
Loop and tape the strips into a chain.
Hang it where it will not interfere with doors or the meal.

03 / The useful details

A table-story page.

Give each child paper with three prompts: something funny, something kind, and something they want to remember.

Drawing counts as an answer.
Offer sharing rather than requiring it.
Date the pages and save the ones the children want to keep.
